In the past 24 hours, the New York Post has published two great columns about the need to re-open America. The first is "Science says: It's time to start easing the lockdowns" by a former chief of neuroradiology at Stanford Medical Center.

Dr. Scott Atlas insists "the curves have been flattened" and "established medical science... [can] limit the enormous harms accumulating from broad isolation and economic lockdown." He also writes: 

"With sensible precautions and sanitization standards, most workplaces and businesses should reopen. This would save lives, prevent overcrowding of hospitals, restore vital health care for everyone and allow the socializing essential to generate immunity among those with little risk of serious consequences."

Grassfire agrees with that analysis and with a point made in a second opinion piece that appears in today's Post. In "Wait, how long are we supposed to stay in lockdown?", columnist Karol Markowicz insists:

"... the governor [Andrew Cuomo (D-NY)] has to stop shaming us for looking for a light at the end of this hell-tunnel. It’s also becoming apparent that staying closed is some weird poke in the eye to President Trump."

That's what we've been saying for weeks! After losing 26 million jobs (so far), it's time to end the draconian lockdowns, shutdowns and quarantines. Dr. Atlas also writes that we can reduce the threat of death from coronavirus by issuing "rational distancing guidelines to the elderly and their families, including self-isolating the mildly sick. Masks could be required for public transit. We know children and young adults in good health have almost no risk of any serious illness from COVID-19, so logic means opening most schools."

The American economy has been devastated by this pandemic. More than 26 million people have lost their jobs in the past five weeks -- with more layoffs expected.
