This morning, we told you that Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) thinks an impeachment trial held after President Trump leaves office contradicts what the Founders intended in the Constitution. Cotton insists that "the Senate lacks constitutional authority to conduct impeachment proceedings against a former president." He adds, "(T)he impeachment process [is] not an inquest against private citizens."

But the Senate will soon be controlled by Democrats, and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) is expected to move ahead on a trial for former-President Trump. Why? Because impeachment would disqualify him from running again and winning the presidency in 2024. Democrats are petrified that he could become president again on January 20, 2025. Also, Senate RINOs don't want "Citizen Trump" dominating the GOP for the next four years.

Grassfire wants to know what you think. Is an impeachment trial an exercise in futility, since it's unlikely that 17 of the 50 Republican Senators (34%) will vote to convict. Maybe you support giving President Trump the opportunity to defend himself against accusations of "incitement of insurrection" and "willfully inciting violence against the government of the United States." Perhaps, with Joe Biden set to be inaugurated on January 20, you don't think this the best way for the Senate to start a new legislative term under a new president.
