Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT), the twice-failed Republican presidential candidate, has been brazen and unyielding in criticism of President Trump. He made his disdain for the President known long before joining the Senate in January of this year.

In a March 2016 speech, Romney called then-candidate Trump "a phony, a fraud" who was "playing members of the American public for suckers." He added, "If we Republicans choose Donald Trump as our nominee, the prospects for a safe and prosperous future are greatly diminished." Mr. Trump responded by calling the former Republican presidential nominee a "choke artist."

Last week, Romney even admitted to using a Twitter account under the fake name of "Pierre Delecto" to attack America's Commander-in-Chief on the social media platform. The Utah Senator, once the consummate "gentleman politician," seems to relish his self-appointed role of "RINO-in-Chief."

An NBC News article published yesterday morning provides an insightful look at Romney's "rebellion" against the President. The author notes that the Senator "is an island" and "has isolated himself from Republicans in the Senate, in his home state and across the country."

The article also says Romney's criticism of Mr. Trump "has renewed speculation among GOP critics in Washington and in Utah that (he) has ulterior motives — jealousy, retribution, Oval Office ambition or some potent mix of all three."

Grassfire thinks NBC News has hit the nail on the head when it comes to the Utah Republican. But he's just one of several GOP lawmakers who are "waffling" on or outright supporting President Trump's impeachment.
