Update: Friday, 1:30 a.m. ET

Yesterday, we told you how The American Conservative called Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) a "hero" for leading the charge to oust now-former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA). Another conservative publication, The American Spectator, calls Gaetz a "general" who "imposed the change he [and seven other House Republicans] desired." The 99-year-old magazine also said:

"Spending bills emanate in the House of Representatives. Rather than reverse the multidecade trend that led to budgets exceeding $6 trillion, McCarthy twice partnered with Democrats to prevent a government shutdown and protect the other party’s spending priorities. ... This past weekend, as in the spring, McCarthy feared angering the opposition more than he did his party’s right-wing. He took conservatives for granted."

The American Spectator didn't label Gaetz a hero, but it came pretty close. To them, the Florida Republican is no villain. Instead, "the Gaetz Eight" opened the door to the House electing "a more conservative speaker than McCarthy" and made it "more likely than not that Republican leadership thinks twice about making one-sided deals again with the Democrats on spending."

Grassfire wants to know what you think. That's why we launched our "Hero Or Villain?" QuickPoll yesterday. Please see our previous update below about the Speaker drama. Let us know what you think of Gaetz by voting in our one-question survey below. Is he a "hero" or a "villain"? Thank you, in advance, for taking action and making your voice heard.

Standing for life, liberty and limited government,

Thursday morning:

The excesses of Big Government are many, and they're getting worse. One day after his successful bid to oust now-former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) posted this on social media:

"My mission is to ensure that the House of Representatives runs better. We have been backed up against shutdown politics, governed by crisis, and no one has been responsible for spending in the last 30 years. It's time for a change."

Somewhat surprisingly, the print and digital magazine The American Conservative insists the embattled Congressman is the hero, not the villain, of this controversial story:

"Gaetz makes it clear that the status quo on the budget for the last few decades needs to end. ... Americans of all political backgrounds should support Gaetz in his endeavor to make the legislature a democratic institution once again, and hopefully to stave off bankruptcy a little while longer. Whether or not his heart is in the right place, his argument is entirely valid."

Grassfire wants to know what you think about Rep. Matt Gaetz and his actions that ousted McCarthy as Speaker of the House? Is Gaetz a "hero" or a "villain" in this fight? Please make your voice heard by clicking on one of the images below now:

Grassfire believes the #1 function of government is to protect its people. Sadly, over the past several decades, we've seen Washington, D.C. "fat cats" enrich themselves and their cronies on the backs of hardworking American taxpayers.

The past two Democrat regimes, with the help of Establishment RINOs, have targeted anyone who doesn't support their "Hate America" agenda and "America Last" policies. The American Conservative puts it this way:

"Ideally, the Congress is supposed to take up each major national concern and decide to fund or defund the programs, agencies, and initiatives meant to address that concern. If a department fails at protecting the border, it should be eliminated, replaced, or reconstituted. If a law enforcement agency charged with catching high-level criminals is instead raiding the homes of political opponents and orchestrating phony kidnapping plots, the same applies. If a conflict abroad is proving to be needlessly prolonged and going nowhere, then a treaty should be struck and foreign aid reduced."

Please let us know where you stand. After voting in our "Hero Or Villain?" QuickPoll, please forward this email to your family members and friends. We want to know what they think too. Grassfire will share the results of this one-question survey when we reach 10,000 votes.

Thank you, in advance, for taking action this morning in support of life, liberty and limited government.
