Honduras is facing a desperate crisis as bad if not worse than any we have encountered in recent years. It is now clear that Hurricane Iota unleashed an even more crippling blow on Central America than Eta which hit two weeks ago. This is by far the most devastating storm of the year. The Miami Herald is calling this a "massive humanitarian disaster," and the problem is, there is no equivalent of FEMA in Honduras and very little non-profit response.

Tens of thousands more in Honduras have been left homeless by this latest storm. There are very few shelters and those that are open are overwhelmed. 

For many in the community of Comayagua, the food and water that your support of Mercy Chefs is helping to provide is the only relief the people are receiving. Otherwise there is literally nothing. People are walking to the churches in search of something... anything... to eat!

We have two water units working and distributing fresh water. My team is working to order an additional unit but we will then face the challenge of getting new equipment along with team members into Honduras! The main airports are still closed as it is still raining in some areas and the floodwaters haven't receded. 

As I write, we are sending more resources directly to our contacts in Comayagua so they can provide the basic essentials -- water, flour, sugar, rice, beans -- to as many people as possible.

I need help. The costs are really starting to mount. A new water purification unit alone is $7,000. Plus, we need to be ready to provide 10-15,000 meals through this weekend by any means we possibly can.
