"The American Rescue Plan Act of 2021" calls for billions and billions of taxpayer dollars to be spent on liberal giveaways that do little or nothing to fight coronavirus. It's a Democrat "wish list" of progressive "pork" that doesn't do enough to help struggling families, small businesses, schools or those most at risk to the coronavirus.

On Sunday, Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH) told ABC News' "This Week": "It's $1.9 trillion. More than half of it won’t even be spent in this calendar year. ... So how could it be about COVID relief? ... A number of things in here have nothing to do with COVID relief."

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), who's done an incredible job leading the Sunshine State through the pandemic, said almost exactly the same thing yesterday. A harsh critic of the supposed "relief bill," he stated at a press conference:

"So much of [this bill] has nothing to do with COVID. I think, in some respects, it's kind of Washington at its worst yet again."

DeSantis also criticized how the legislation, crafted by Democrats, helps "blue states" whose leaders shutdown their economies and hurts "red states" that were less restrictive in their COVID strategy. Florida's governor wants federal-aid money for states to be distributed equally based on population:

"If you're going to send it, it should be fair, and we shouldn’t be penalizing states for doing a good job. But that is exactly what this bill does. ... States like New York and California, who have higher unemployment, are benefiting. They're getting a windfall of two, three, four billion dollars. That is completely unfair."
