GRASSFIRE (Jan. 29, 2019) -- Millions of Americans were shocked when New York state passed a law effectively legalizing abortion during the full nine months of pregnancy, right up until the moment of live birth. But sadly, the legislation isn't new. Seven other states and Washington, D.C. already have laws in place like the one Governor Andrew Cuomo (D-NY) gleefully signed last week. On their website, pro-life Live Action says those other states with "barbaric abortion laws" are Alaska, Colorado, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon and Vermont.
"The (New York) law legalizes abortion for fetal abnormalities and for any other reason covered by the phrase 'health of the mother,' at any point in pregnancy," Live Action reports. "Maryland, like New York, also allows for late-term abortions, though the state has a limit on abortions past the point of viability. The state likewise allows abortion for 'fetal abnormality,' which includes diagnoses like Down syndrome."
How is it legal for a mother in the United States to kill her child until the moment of birth if they have Down syndrome, a cleft palate, a heart defect or some other "abnormality"?
In 2006, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) reported: "About 3% of U.S. babies -- around 120,000 newborns per year -- are born with any of 45 types of birth defects." Thankfully, many of those defects are correctable through surgery and most are NOT life threatening. But it's shocking to know that any one of those babies could be at risk of being aborted in New York or Maryland.

An estimated 61 million preborn infants have been murdered through abortion since the 1973 "Roe v. Wade" Supreme Court decision "legalizing" the procedure. Looking at that number, it's hard to deny that abortion is NOT America's "holocaust." Is the New York law a tipping point?

Live Action also reports that the United States is one of only seven nations that allows elective abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy, the point at which the scientific community widely agrees that the preborn child can feel pain: "We join the ranks of nations like China, infamous for its harsh abortion policies and other oppressive regimes such as North Korea. The others are Canada, Netherlands, Singapore, and Vietnam."
