After 5:00 p.m. ET yesterday, Grassfire staff received an alarming email from the office of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY). In it, he calls out Democrats for their obstruction tactics related to funding the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). McConnell insists that, with PPP officially out of money, the "shameful actions" of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) "will now directly harm hardworking Americans."
The late afternoon email included dozens of quotes from lawmakers and links to news articles about the impact and cost of "Democrats' PPP Obstruction." (Click here to see a digital version.) It also included this alarming quote from McConnell:
"It is absolutely surreal to see Democratic leaders treat support for workers and small businesses as something they need to be goaded into supporting. This really should be above politics. Five million more Americans lost their jobs just last week. That makes 20 million layoffs in just one month."

Instead of doing more in Washington, D.C. to help millions of struggling Americans, Pelosi kept the House out of session this week. But the Speaker did mange to find time to appear on a late-night talk show. She proudly displayed a basket of Easter chocolate and her stash of $12 ice-cream pints stored in her expensive, high-end freezer. It was the kind of "let them eat cake" moment that you might think a public servant would avoid when many Americans are turning to food banks to feed their families.
(Note: Queen Marie-Antoinette has become famous for the derisive "let them eat cake" comment to suffering, 18th-century French peasants, but Encyclopædia Britannica reports that she probably never said it.)

Even in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis, Pelosi and Schumer STILL can't manage to put aside her hyper-partisan, anti-American hate for President Trump in order to help Americans in crisis. Thousands of people have died; millions of Americans have been thrown out of work by panicked, nationwide shutdowns; and one of the most robust economies in U.S. history has been devastated.
Pelosi even delayed last month's $2.2 TRILLION bipartisan, government bailout by a full week. Now, she and Schumer REFUSE to act and release additional funds for the Paycheck Protection Program. If McConnell and his fellow Republicans wanted money for illegal aliens or to fund abortions, do you think the two Democrat "leaders" would be dragging their feet?
