A reporter asked White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany yesterday why the Trump campaign held a rally in North Carolina on Tuesday that was attended by some 15,000 supporters. Her reply was brilliant: "People have a First Amendment right, if they so choose, to show up and express their political opinion in the form of a peaceful protest, which is what the President held."
The Trump campaign even hands out signs at their events that read "THIS IS A PEACEFUL PROTEST" and "PEACEFUL PROTESTOR" to push back against COVID regulations that limit in-person gatherings. But using that strategy for the President's planned trip to Nevada this weekend has hit a snag. Rallies in Reno and Las Vegas have been cancelled, for now, due to the Democrat governor's coronavirus-related ban on events with more than 50 people.
In a statement yesterday, Trump campaign spokesman Tim Murtaugh accused Democrats of "trying to keep President Trump from speaking to voters because they know the enthusiasm behind his re-election campaign cannot be matched by Joe Biden – a historically weak candidate controlled by the radical left who could hold a campaign event in a broom closet."
Murtaugh added that the President is planning to still visit Nevada this weekend. Whether Mr. Trump will appear at rallies, smaller campaign events or "peaceful protests" is not clear yet. But you can join the "Trump Peaceful Protest" no matter where you are!
