Dear Senator,

I'm faxing today to demand that you, a duly elected member of the United States Senate, reject the impeachment witch hunt against President Trump. I'm calling on you to take immediate steps to stop the unconstitutional trial scheduled to begin on February 8.

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) insists an impeachment trial held after a Commander-in-Chief leaves office is unconstitutional, saying recently in a press release: "(T)he Senate lacks constitutional authority to conduct impeachment proceedings against a former president. The Founders designed the impeachment process as a way to remove officeholders from public office—not an inquest against private citizens."

Please stand with Sen. Cotton in calling for "fidelity to the Constitution" and "oppose impeachment proceedings against (the) former president." Also, please heed the words of Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), who calls an impeachment trial "a bad idea," and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) who says, "Impeaching and trying a president after he has left office is petty, vindictive, mean spirited, and divisive."

On January 26, 90% of Senate Republicans (45 out of 50) voted that an impeachment trial against a former president is unconstitutional. Since the Constitution calls for a supermajority to convict and impeach, the Senate would need an additional 12 GOP votes to "posthumously" remove President Trump from office.

That's just not going to happen. So, "in the name of unity" and "for the good of the country," Democrats MUST cancel "Citizen Trump's" impeachment trial. The trumped-up charge of "incitement of insurrection" for "willfully inciting violence against the government of the United States" is easily disproved by what the President actually said during his speech to supporters on January 6:

"I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol Building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard."

Legal experts warn that impeaching the President for the speech he made at the "Stop The Steal!" rally in Washington, D.C., sets a dangerous precedent against the First Amendment. Also, evidence indicates that the protestors' breach of the U.S. Capitol was planned well in advance and began 20 minutes BEFORE Mr. Trump finished speaking. That's why it's up to you and your Senate colleagues to reject this impeachment witch hunt and help America heal.

Finally, I want to point out that President Trump received a literal vote of confidence from more than 74 million Americans less than three months ago. So please take the necessary steps to "Reject The Impeachment Witch Hunt" and cancel the upcoming trial. I look forward to monitoring your response to this patriotic call to action. Thank you for your time and attention.

Sincerely,

A Concerned American Taxpayer
