GRASSFIRE -- Another partial government shutdown is now less than five days away. If Democrats and President Trump can't agree on border-wall funding by midnight on Friday, hundreds of thousands of federal employees will be furloughed or forced to work without pay -- again!

The previous "Shutdown Showdown" lasted a record-breaking 35 days in December and January. Anti-Trumpers say the President lost that battle by signing a short-term spending bill in exchange for only a promise that Democrats would negotiate on a solution to strengthen America's southern border.

Hopes that a deal would be made this weekend on a long-term spending bill faded after negotiations hit a snag regarding (of all things) the number of beds in immigration detention centers. FOX News reports that Democrats say they want to limit "the Trump administration’s cruel immigration policies."

On "FOX News Sunday," the Republican's leading negotiator on border-wall funding, Sen. Richard Shelby (R-AL), said members of his party don't want to offer concessions on U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE):

“(W)e’ve got some problems with the Democrats dealing with ICE, that is detaining criminals that come into the U.S., and they want a cap on them. We don’t want a cap on that."

President Trump has accused Dems of wanting another shutdown. He lashed out at them in an early morning tweet today:

"The Democrats do not want us to detain, or send back, criminal aliens! This is a brand new demand. Crazy!"
