The Winner of the 2018 "Snowflake" for "Dumbest Shaming Campaign" goes to:
The Attack On Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer"
Wow. Has it come to this? Do we really have to take down EVERY CLASSIC from our childhoods?
So this year -- thanks to the Snowflakes over at HuffPo -- we learned that the iconic claymation Christmas story, Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer is really a hateful work that promotes discrimination against those who are different from us. HuffPo says the marginalization of Rudolph is all "seriously problematic."
I guess I wasn't paying close enough attention as a six year old to assume in my own psyche a persona of marginalization when Rudolph's frenemies called him "fire snout" and "rainbow puss." Perhaps I was too distracted by how cool the glowing nose was... or I was already anticipating with much fear the arrival of that horrible Abominable Snowman.
Or perhaps, as a six-year-old, I actually understood the entire point of the show -- that people ARE mean at times and they will make fun of me and I need to embrace who I am, discover who my real friends are, and find the strength to overcome and do some good with my life! And that there is hope for those on the island of misfit toys!
It's a great Christmas story. And shame on HuffPo and the Snowflakes for trying to shame us into not watching it.
On Prancer! On Dancer.... Rudoph, Guide the sleigh, and philosophically slay the Snowflakes!
