The Big, Beautiful Bill is a trick. A sleight of hand that actually INCREASES the debt by TRILLIONS but is designed to look manageable over a 10-year window.
I know it's not popular to say this, but these are the facts.
First, the BBB pulls the classic D.C. bait and switch. As you can see from this chart -- the bill loads up MORE SPENDING in the first four years, actually INCREASING spending and the debt burden in the near term (see the RED circle in the chart).
Then, the BBB pushes all the "savings" to the last five years (the turquoise circle) after President Trump leaves office. Politicians know those "savings" will never happen.
+ + The dirty, dirty trick....
But here's the dirty trick they don't want you to know.
In order to make the bogus numbers work, the BBB assumes MASSIVE TAX INCREASES after 2029. You heard me right.... They "sunset" many of the new Trump tax cuts in 2029 so that the deficit projections don't look so bad!
Without the gimmick of a massive tax increase baked into the 10-year projections, the BBB actually increases the deficits by about $4 TRILLION MORE than current law! When the CBO adds in expected increased debt financing costs due to interest rates, we can add another $500 BILLION to the deficit increase, totaling $4.5 Trillion.
Over ten years, we could see $25 TRILLION in debt added to the crushing burden that our children and grandchildren will face.
You can ignore this.
You can just close your eyes and let your children and granchildren pay the piper.
