This urgent Grassfire "SPENDING ALERT" is brought to you courtesy of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY). Yesterday, he delivered a "counteroffer" to the stop-gap spending bill that Republican leaders released on Tuesday.
As expected, Schumer and his ilk have started laying the groundwork to blame President Donald Trump for a federal-government shutdown that, very likely, would be their fault! Why? Because obstructionism is currently the preferred political strategy of Democrats.
Facing that possible shutdown on September 30, Mr. Trump asked Congress to pass a "clean" CR (continuing resolution) without dramatic spending increases and no earmarks for lawmakers' pet projects at taxpayer expense.
+ + Why The Next Few Days Are Critical...
The GOP's current "stop-gap" legislation proposed by Republicans will keep the federal government "open" through November 21. Democrats want to fund their never-ending D.C. Spending Scam for only one month -- until October 31. Congress is not scheduled to be in session next week, which means the next few days are critical.
Grassfire is NOT a fan of CRs. We think both party's fiscal strategy of "kicking the can down the road" is no way to govern a nation, but we're confident Mr. Trump is trying to change that.
