Today is both a dark and a glorious day.

Dark because on this day we remember the betrayal and the scourging and the crown of thorns and the suffering on the cross.

The day was so dark that the sun's light was blocked for three hours -- from noon to 3pm.

But today is also a glorious day, for on this day we remember that the work of God to save our souls was finished. God in the flesh had come and He died for our sins.

A few years back Stacy and I were visiting our dear friends in Atlanta for Easter. I was sitting there in my buddy Mike's house realizing I hadn't written many (any?) songs about the Easter season.

So I grabbed Mike's guitar and I wrote a song framed around the three exclamations that could be heard on that day...

Crucify Him!

Save Yourself!, and

It is Finished

The song is essentially a compressed retelling of the trial and crucifixion of Jesus across all four Gospels:

“Crucify Him” places us in the crowd at the cross—hearing the accusations, the silence, and the cries for His death. As the voices shift from rejection to mockery to finality, the deeper truth emerges: the One condemned is the One who saves. What looks like defeat becomes the quiet victory of love—finished, complete, and given for us.

The third verse hits hard...

They put You on a  cross

Nailed up Your feet and arms

Still They mocked You all the more

While others just looked on

Though You did nothing wrong

They say that You must save your soul

This week, I released "Crucify Him!" under the music banner I'm calling Funner Collective. Here are a few direct links to the song:

I hope this song encourages you to ponder all that Jesus did for you... today... on Good Friday.

At His table,

Steve Elliott
